Measles Cases Rise To 21 In North Dakota

(Bismarck, ND) — The measles outbreak in North Dakota has now grown to 21 infections across three counties. The new cases are all being reported out of Pembina County. One case apiece had been reported earlier this year out of Walsh and Williams Counties. The virus can lead to complications like Pneumonia and Encephalitis (uhn-seh-fuh-lai-tuhs), which is the swelling of the brain. State officials say the state has a vaccination rate of 90-percent but needs a 95-percent rate to prevent community spread.
