(Stanton, ND) — A Mercer County Commission meeting led to public complaints regarding data center proposals. Most of the complaints were focused on the lack of information provided to the public about what the effects would be. One attendee said NextEra has been purchasing land in the county and signing agreements that are shrouded in NDAs, designed to keep residents in the dark. The commission voted on a one-year moratorium on permitting for new AI data centers. Neighboring Oliver County is considering a similar moratorium next week.
