Bill To Speed Up Tribal Mortgage Approvals Heads To President

(Washington, DC) — A bill pushed by the South Dakota congressional delegation is heading to President Trump. The Tribal Trust Land Homeownership Act aims to streamline mortgage approvals for residential and commercial properties on Tribal land. Rep. Dusty Johnson sponsored the bill and explained that tribal members have challenges to acquire proper mortgage documents because it is not prioritized by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The bill would force a review of a mortgage application within ten days and a decision within one month of that receival date.
