(Pierre, SD) — A school cell phone ban is officially dead after a House vote on Thursday. The bill was voted down twice by a one-vote margin in a committee hearing on Monday but smoked out on Tuesday after an amendment was added. The House officially killed the bill on Thursday with a 39-to-28 vote against it. Opponents said most districts already have their own ban in place and the issue should be determined at the local level. Representatives spent nearly an hour debating the bill before the vote on Thursday.
