(Bismarck, ND) — Special education teachers in the state and paraprofessionals are reporting burnout. Over 150 special education professionals responded to the survey done by North Dakota United, an educators and public sector employees union. In the survey, about 44 percent of respondents said there are rarely any options for taking paid leave if they’re injured during a crisis at school. The survey found 74-percent o respondents said pay and benefits or paraprofessionals is not keeping up with the cost of living. Around 86-percent report feeling overwhelmed by their workload and 44-percent report considering leaving special education.
