Lawsuit Filed To Block Term Limits Measure

news

(Bismarck, ND) — The North Dakota Secretary of State is trying to block a constitutional measure impacting term limits. A lawsuit filed jointly by Attorney General Drew Wrigley on behalf of Secretary of State Michael Howe and two attorneys representing the legislature was sent directly to the state Supreme Court. If passed, the measure would allow a lawmaker to serve four full terms in either chamber of the legislature. It would allow lawmakers 16 years in the state Congress but current wording limits lawmakers to just eight years in both the House and Senate. The measure is currently set to be voted on in the November 3rd general election.
