Sioux Falls City Council Advances Smithfield TIF To Second Reading

(Sioux Falls, SD) — Sioux Falls City Council is moving forward with a TIF for a new Smithfield plant. The council voted unanimously on Tuesday to advance the plan to a second reading scheduled for March 17th. One council member says the emails and voice mails she has received about the plant have been, “overwhelmingly positive.” Smithfield is proposing a new pork processing plant in Foundation Park. The TIF would defer about four-point-five million dollars in tax revenue for each of the next 20 years to help pay for wastewater treatment.
