(Brookings, SD) — Bel Groupe is starting construction on a 200-million dollar expansion project in Brookings. The group is known for producing their famous red, wax-wrapped Babybel cheese snacks. The expansion project of the Brookings facility is expected to double production and create more than 150 new jobs in the community. The facility will be able to create about three-million Babybel cheeses per day when it’s complete. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Wednesday with many state and local leaders in attendance.
