Primary Residence Tax Credit Needs More Funding

(Bismarck, ND) — The amount of North Dakotans applying for the Primary Residence Tax Credit is increasing. Officials say 152-thousand people applied last year and more than 160-thousand are expected to apply this year. The state might not have enough funds to cover everybody, but lawmakers say there are ways to find additional funding for the popular program. A 408-million dollar allotment was set aside in 2025 for the program but last year the state used 207 million. This year, they are expected to need 220-million dollars to cover all the eligible qualifiers.
