(Bismarck, ND) — A state task force on government efficiency is looking into cutting maintenance and construction costs. A construction management director at the University of North Dakota says eliminating the need for architects or engineers on certain maintenance projects could save the state money. Brian Larson says the state requires that any project over 250-thousand dollars is required to have approval from an architecture or engineering firm that sometimes isn’t necessary. The task force is reviewing more than 70 potential changes to state statutes that could provide hefty savings for the state.
