New Law Addresses EMS Funding In South Dakota

(Pierre, SD) — Emergency medical service companies are hoping a new law will relieve their financial stress. A bill passed by Governor Rhoden this week creates a task force to assess how EMS funding can be improved. Sioux Falls Patient Care EMS Director of Operations Nicole Hannon is calling it, “a great opportunity.” The task force is expected to be made completely of lawmakers but Hannon and Spearfish Ambulance Executive Director Brian Hambek are expected to have a strong influence. Hambek says things can’t keep going the way they are because companies are losing money every time they respond to an incident.
