Sturgis City Council Sets Special Mayoral Election For June 2nd

(Sturgis, SD) — Sturgis will elect its fourth mayor since 2024 on June 2nd. City Council members set the June 2nd date during a special council meeting on Wednesday. They are not appointing an interim replacement for former Mayor Kevin Forrester but Council President Tony Dargatz will serve as mayor pro tem until at least April 6th. Forrester stepped down on March 23rd, citing health concerns and a desire to spend more time with family. He is the third mayor to resign since 2024, following Angela Wilkerson and Mark Carstensen.
