Public Employee Retirement System Growing Slower Than Inflation

(Pierre, SD) — Inflation is likely to outpace South Dakota’s public employee retirement system for the sixth straight year. Officials who manage the retirement system say they expect a cost-of-living benefit adjustment in 2027 of one-point-56 percent. Inflation has jumped by more than two percent every year since 2021. The retirement system provides funds for teachers, state workers and most state and local public employees. There are more than 105-thousand members in the public employee retirement system.
