Suspect In Officer-Involved Shooting Was Wanted For A Week

(Sioux Falls, SD) — Officers say the suspect from an officer-involved shooting Tuesday was wanted for probation violation. The shooting happened near the intersection of Russell Street and Minnesota Avenue but the suspect was not injured by gunshots. He was injured when police deployed a K9 who chased down 36-year-old Richard Olson Jr. and bit him. Sioux Falls Police Chief Jon Thum said on Wednesday that when Olson got out of the car, he was holding a gun. He said this was not the first time Olson was in trouble with the law and adds that calls dealing with repeat offenders have been more frequent and, “incredibly frustrating.”
