(Mitchell, SD) — The comprehensive study and evaluation of Lake Mitchell Dam is complete. The study was completed by Houston Engineering at the request of the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Preliminary findings suggest that the lake cannot pass the Probable Maximum Flood requirement for reservoirs of its size in the state. The city has requested a variance to allow the dam to remain below the required standard and to move forward with a dredging project that should increase the number. A more detailed report is expected at the City Council meeting on Monday.
