(Vermillion, SD) — A Harvard University lecturer says events like the Chiesman Center for Democracy conference are crucial. Former Harvard Professor Steve Jarding was the headline speaker this year and he says he’s seen the country’s reputation shift since the Cold War. He says that communication is now more important than ever with the world becoming more connected every day. This year’s Democracy conference featured a panel on the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, which included South Dakota lawmakers and presentations from University of South Dakota students. The event was held in Vermillion on Thursday.
