Groups Launch Campaign To Move Property Tax Cut To Ballot

(Pierre, SD) — Three groups are launching a campaign to put property tax cuts on the November ballot. The cuts are supposed to take effect in July. The group will have to collect more than 17-thousand-500 signatures within 90 days of the last day of the session, which occurred on March 30th. Bread for the World SD, the South Dakota AFL-CIO and Dakota Rural Action say the bill is not what lawmakers have pitched it as. Lawmakers say it’s the largest property-tax cut in state history made possible by implementing a sales tax increase that will be applied to property taxes for owner-occupied homes.
