(Rapid City, SD) — The Department of Corrections is looking to fill 130 positions for a new women’s prison. Builders broke ground on the facility in October of 2023. The prison is a level three facility designed to house medium and minimum custody offenders and the goal of the facility is set to help people transition back into society upon release. It’s set to hold up to 300 inmates with the first prisoners set to arrive at the end of the summer. Officials say they have 40 percent of the positions filled.
