(Pierre, SD) — Several candidates are bowing out of races for spots in South Dakota Legislature ahead of the November election. With the withdrawal deadline passing on Tuesday evening, there are 11 total candidates — ten Democrats and one Republican — that will no longer be running. County political parties do have the option to choose replacement candidates. Just two of the Democrats have been replaced so far. The replacement filing deadline is on August 13th. Secretary of State Monae Johnson will have to notify county auditors by August 20th of the final lists of candidates for the 2024 general election ballot.
