IM 29 Advocates React To Negative Ad

(Pierre, SD) — The battle over Initiated Measure 29 to legalize recreational marijuana in South Dakota appears to be heating up. Supporters are calling a new ad from opponents “false and deceiving.” Executive Director of South Dakotans for Better Marijuana Laws Matthew Schweich believes the digital ad is giving voters the impression that IM 29 would legalize or decriminalize hard drugs. He told the media that “the question of what measure 29 legalizes is not a matter of opinion” and that it clearly defines marijuana and marijuana products only. Rhonda Milstead with Protecting South Dakota Kids — the group running the ad — insists they are being truthful about marijuana not being healthy and leading to other drug use. She says they have no plans to pull it. Schweich is now contesting that the ad could violate FCC regulations and asking South Dakota TV stations not to run it.
