(Bismarck, ND) — A man who was seen killing a kitten with a shovel near Bismarck has been found not guilty of animal abuse. The Bismarck Tribune says 36-year-old Trevor Demaray of Tappen was charged with animal abuse after a 30-second video on social media showed Demaray hitting the cat with a shovel repeatedly at a concrete plant in Menoken. His lawyer argued that the feral cat was injured after getting stuck in the engine of a co-worker’s pickup truck, and that Demaray was putting it out of its misery. He was facing a year in jail and a three-thousand-dollar fine if convicted.
