(Mitchell, SD) — South Dakotans are going to be able to enjoy one last summer on Lake Mitchell before it’s gone for a while. The Lake Mitchell project is set to begin sometime this fall. Lake Mitchell will be drained, cleaned, and refilled again after the city council got approval to seek a 25-million-dollar loan to drain and dredge the lake. It currently has high levels of phosphorus which has led to algae on the lake and frequent closures. Construction on the lake is expected to begin in 2026 and is supposed to be refilled by 2028.
