SD Nonprofit Addresses Proposed Naloxone Cuts

(Sioux Falls, SD) — A South Dakota nonprofit is sharing its reaction to the Trump Administration proposing cuts for the drug overdose medication, naloxone. Emily’s Hope in Sioux Falls has been working to expand access to naloxone, commonly known as Narcan. The proposal would cut 56-million dollars in grant money for the drug. Emily’s Hope recently announced it would be distributing 20-thousand naloxone kits across the state. The non-profit’s founder Angela Kennecke says she doesn’t expect the program to be impacted, but the move could impact first responders and slow down progress in ending the ongoing opioid crisis.
