(Canton, SD) — The recent steady rain across the region is giving South Dakota farmers a boost. After a dry winter and spring, local farmers were concerned about planting crops in the dry soil. Sam Eiesland, a farmer near Canton, says the rain came at the perfect time to help crops grow. While the rain is a welcome relief, Lincoln County Emergency Manager Harold Timmerman says farmers will need more steady rain throughout the season to keep things growing. However, the dry conditions still leave a risk for fires with leftover dry grass.
