South Dakota Auditors Begin Voter List Cleanup This Summer

(Sioux Falls, SD) — South Dakota county auditors are preparing to clean up voter registration lists this summer to keep them accurate. It’s a biannual process that’s done every odd-numbered year. Minnehaha County Auditor Leah Anderson says they remove voters who haven’t updated info or voted in years, but only after sending address verification cards. If one of the cards is received for someone who no longer occupies the property, it’s important to return it so auditors can update the list. Secretary of State Monae Johnson reminds everyone to update their registration if they’ve moved or changed their name to help make voting smoother. Auditors also cross-check obituaries to remove deceased voters, ensuring precincts have accurate counts for Election Day.
