Thune Weighs In On Trump Signing “Big, Beautiful Bill”

(Washington, DC) — Senate Majority Leader and South Dakota’s John Thune is calling the One Big Beautiful Bill the toughest one he’s ever worked on. He says the bill prevents a 25-hundred-dollar tax hike for South Dakota families and extends Trump-era tax cuts for working people. That includes no taxes on tips or overtime, and lower taxes on Social Security. Thune says small businesses also avoid a major hit, up to a 40 percent tax rate if the bill hadn’t passed. The measure also boosts military funding, adds more ICE agents at the border, and tightens eligibility for Medicaid and SNAP. Thune adds people who shouldn’t be on those programs, including undocumented immigrants and able-bodied adults who aren’t working, will be removed. The bill also bumps the child tax credit from two-thousand to 22-hundred dollars per child. Thune says the legislation took nearly a year of work and calls it long overdue.
