(Pierre, SD) — A judge has hit pause on a new public school building project in Ramona. It comes after a group of landowners sued the Oldham-Ramona-Rutland School District, claiming the nearly 15-million-dollar opt-out behind the project didn’t follow state law. And for now, the judge agrees. He’s ordered construction and new debt-issuance to stop while the case plays out. The landowners argue voters weren’t properly informed the levy would last 21 years, and the judge called that a “substantial” issue. Meanwhile, the district is also facing a petition to disband and now has 180 days to respond under state law.
