Two Men Charged in Fatal Lower Brule Reservation Shooting

(Lower Brule, SD) — Two men face federal murder charges after a Monday shooting on the Lower Brule Reservation killed two people. Eighteen-year-olds Jami Johnson Jr. and Kingston Bagola are charged with second-degree murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and firearm offenses. Both pleaded not guilty in federal court this week. The shooting claimed the lives of Teron Sazue and Tayshawn Battese, while a third suspect died by suicide. Bagola surrendered to authorities Wednesday, ending a lock-out at St. Francis Indian School where safety measures were in place. Tribal leaders are mourning the victims and calling on the community to support the victims’ families.
