(Dickinson, ND) — Dickinson City Commissioners are denying a special use permit for the proposed United Way Supportive Care Center. The commission voted three-to-two against the proposed three-story facility, which would serve as a multi-use transitional housing center. Some officials raised safety concerns over the facility’s status as low-barrier, meaning it would not require drug tests but would have turned away high-risk sex or violent offenders. Dakota Gant, Director of United Way of Dickinson, says the group will continue to solve transitional housing shortages in the city despite the commission’s recent decision.
