American Public Television to Distribute Women’s Work: The Untold Story of America’s Female Farmers Nationwide

SEATTLE (AgPR) — Women have always been at the heart of American agriculture, yet their stories are too often left untold. That changes this fall with the national release of Women’s Work: The Untold Story of America’s Female FarmersGeorgia Public Broadcasting, the film’s presenting station, has partnered with American Public Television (APT) to distribute the documentary to PBS stations nationwide, beginning October 1. Stations are encouraged to air the film on October 12 in honor of National Farmers Day.

Told through powerful interviews and vivid storytelling, Women’s Work highlights an overlooked legacy — one where women farmers shaped, sustained, and innovated America’s agricultural landscape. From past generations to today’s diverse voices, the film reveals the breadth of women’s roles in farming, supported by insights from experts, historians, and sociologists.

“Women farmers have long been erased from the agriculture narrative, despite their many contributions,” said Audra Mulkern, Executive Producer. “With Women’s Work, we hope to reclaim that narrative and spark a conversation about recognizing and valuing the vital role women farmers play.”

Produced by Mulkern’s The Female Farmer Project© and Rowe’s KR Creative Strategies with fiscal sponsorship from The Redford CenterWomen’s Work is supported by presenting sponsors Central Life Sciences and U.S. Sugar.
