(Sioux Falls, SD) — Lawmakers and law enforcement members met in Sioux Falls on Wednesday to discuss the state of rehabilitation in South Dakota. The Correctional Rehabilitation Task Force wants to help inmates prepare for their life post-incarceration. One program mentioned would allow inmates to get a degree through a Christian nonprofit. The Mississippi Department of Corrections commissioner said recidivism rates in the state went down after the program was introduced. Another program mentioned was the existing welding collaboration between Southeast Technical College. the Department of Corrections and the Department of Labor.
