(Undated) — North Dakota utility regulators are considering building battery storage sites. These storage sites would be the first of its kind for the state and would be used as backstops for renewable energy sources. They hold energy when it’s produced in excess, such as when wind farms see especially windy days, or when solar panels absorb more sun energy than the power grid demands. In theory, the sites could help reduce congestion on the power grid and potentially alleviate cost fluctuations that cause price spikes for customers. The next meeting about the storage sites will be open to the public on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. at the Emmons County Courthouse Auditorium in Linton.
