(Belcourt, ND) — Philanthropist Mackenzie Scott is donating 22 million dollars to Turtle Mountain College in Belcourt. The news comes amid reports of Scott donating over 700 million to colleges and universities across the nation. This isn’t the first time she’s donated to TMC, as she committed eight million to TMC in 2020. College president Wanda Parisien said they’re “profoundly grateful” and called the donation “a powerful investment in indigenous education and self-determination.” According to a report that was released by the college, the donation will “further enhance the college’s ability to offer a unique and supportive educational environment that respects and integrates Indigenous tradition and values into their curriculum.”
