Utility Company Fast Track’s Natural Gas Plant For Data Centers

(Bismarck, ND) — Basin Electric Power Cooperative is fast-tracking a natural gas plant to power data centers. The company signed a memorandum of understanding with a Florida-based company NextEra Energy Resources to explore development for the proposed River Run Energy Center. The companies are eying areas in the western and central parts of North Dakota to help power the expected rise in demand for massive data centers. The proposed energy center would generate more than 14-hundred megawatts of electricity. Coal Creek Station at Underwood is currently the largest active plant in the state, generating about eleven-hundred megawatts.
