(Pierre, SD ) — Authorities are investigating an email scam that stole more than 800-thousand dollars from Tripp County government. The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation says the money was transferred to a criminal bank account. The Tripp County State’s Attorney says county auditors were tricked into authorizing a transfer to a bank account controlled by “external criminal actors.” The scammers used a spoofed email address that appeared to be a legitimate vendor.
