Department Of Education Pushing Bill To Remove Disruptive Students

(Pierre, SD) — A bill to remove unruly students from the classroom is working through the South Dakota House. It was brought forth by Department of Education Secretary Joseph Graves to combat an increase in student violence. Graves says recent violent incidents, including an elementary student who threw a computer against a wall and another elementary student who threw a desk at a student, bit an adult and gave another teacher a concussion are on the rise. The bill would make it easier to send a student to other agreed-upon locations either inside or outside the school for misbehavior. Governor Larry Rhoden expressed support for the bill.
