(Cartwright, ND) — Officials with the Public Service Commission are sealing a mine entrance in Cartwright. The entrance is located next to the Fairview Bridge and Cartwright Tunnel in Cartwright. The commission’s Abandoned Mine Lands program says the mine was initially closed in 2003 with a welded cage but it has since been removed. They now want to permanently seal the opening and drill on top of the hill to locate and characterize the mine, which happens to be very close to a residential area. Drilling will begin in either late summer or early fall.
