Bill To Provide Tax Exemptions For Data Centers Rejected

(Pierre, SD) — A bill to provide tax breaks for data centers will not move forward. Lawmakers rejected the proposal in a nine-to-three vote on Wednesday in a crowded state Capitol building. Many attended the debate with some saying the data centers would add hundreds of jobs and keep the state current with modern technological advances. Others were concerned the massive centers require too much power, water and space to be supported by the community, let alone be provided tax breaks. One lawmaker said they want to hear more discussion on the topic and claimed that economic development should not move faster than public input.
