PIERRE, S.D. — South Dakota lawmakers are addressing education funding, cryptocurrency, and local government issues on the 17th day of the legislative session.
House Education is considering several bills, including funding for a juvenile corrections center in Brown County, a proposal requiring the Department of Education to provide teacher compensation, and measures affecting kindergarten admission and school displays.
House State Affairs is hearing legislation on changing rooms and restrooms, along with a bill that would allow the state to invest in Bitcoin. House Judiciary is also considering multiple bills, including a proposal directing the attorney general to sue China over COVID-19 damages.
Later, both chambers move to floor debate. The Senate will consider limits on local permit requirements for residential improvements, while the House takes up several bills on federal motor carrier rules and apprenticeship programs.
