Farm Bureau, Cattlemen’s Association Back Fake Meat Veto

(Sioux Falls, SD) — Governor Larry Rhoden’s first veto of 2026 is receiving approval from two important agricultural groups. The South Dakota Farm Bureau and Cattlemen’s Association both say the bill could be interpreted too broadly. Farm Bureau President Scott VanderWall says it would change the legal definition of adulterated food and set a dangerous precedent. The SDCA echoed the sentiment saying it could change the way food-safety systems treat adulterated meat and could impact the rest of the cattle industry.
