(Lincoln County, SD) — Lincoln County Commissioners are considering a pause on building data centers after complaints from the community. Commissioner Joel Arends says there are, “a lot of folks who are very concerned about the impact it’s going to have on their electrical rates.” Arends is in favor of a moratorium while Commissioner Jim Schmidt is opposed. Schmidt tells Keloland the complaints he’s heard are, “predicated on fear.” A motion by Arends for a one year moratorium was not seconded and will be forwarded to the planning and zoning committee.
