(Bismarck, ND) — Professors in North Dakota will need advanced degrees in order to receive tenure. The new requirement was mandated by a policy put in place by the State Board of Higher Education on Thursday. It will not affect current tenured professors in the North Dakota University system. Kevin Black, who chairs the board, says he thinks the new mandate assures accountability. The policy would not prevent an institution from hiring a faculty member who does not have a master’s degree or higher.
