No Phones In Class Bill Revived In State House

(Pierre, SD) — The state House is reconsidering a bill to ban cell phones in the classroom. The bill was shot down on Monday in a committee meeting on two different occasions but it was smoked out on Tuesday. In order to smoke out a bill, one-third of the members of the House need to vote in favor by standing. Lawmakers added an amendment on Tuesday to change it from what was heard during the committee meeting on Monday. The amendment convinced enough members of the House to bring it back despite objections from South Dakota Education Secretary Joseph Graves.
