(Deuel County, SD) — The company proposing to build a data center near Toronto, South Dakota is back tracking. Applied Digital says they are now “unlikely to go forward” with the multi-billion-dollar project. The company was optimistic they could land a tax deal with the state back in 2025, but that tone has shifted a tumultuous legislative session with data centers being a divisive topic on the agenda. Applied Digital says they are continuing to monitor opportunities in the state for a long-term investment. The company also has two data center projects in North Dakota.
