(Sioux Falls, SD) — Sioux Falls City Council is advancing two key measures for Smithfield’s relocation to Foundation Park. A large crowd filled Carnegie Town Hall to plead with council members to reconsider a conditional use permit for one of the largest meat packing plants in the state. Council members unanimously voted in favor of the permit. Owners are concerned about the odor and traffic from the new plant but council members countered by saying the old plant thrived in the middle of downtown Sioux Falls for years despite the same odors and traffic outputs. The council also advanced a tax financing package for the company in a seven-to-one vote.
