Pine Ridge Woman Sentenced For Assault Resulting In Serious Injury

(Pine Ridge, SD) — A woman from Pine Ridge must serve 70 months in prison for a 2024 assault. Jessie Sutton was sentenced in federal court for the violent crime, which occured in Indian Country. Sutton and her sister were charged with severely beating another woman in November of 2024, leaving the victim with severe brain injuries requiring emergency surgery. She was arrested after an investigation conducted by the Oglala Sioux Tribe and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office under the Major Crimes Act. She pleaded guilty in December of 2025 to aiding and abetting assault resulting in serious bodily injury and assault with a dangerous weapon.
