(Bismarck, ND) — Challenges in farming have led to an increase in mental health issues in the industry. Farm Rescue Executive Director Tim Sullivan says farmers are usually the first ones to lend a helping hand but the last to actually ask for help. The farm crisis of the 1980s and rising farm bankruptcies since 2019 have not helped improve mental health issues in industry. The National Rural Health Association adds that men are three-and-a-half times more likely to commit suicide than the rest of the population. Sullivan says there are resources on the Farm Rescue website if you know a farmer going through a mental health crisis.
