Majority Of South Dakotans Unhappy With State Of Democracy

(Pierre, SD) — A majority of people in South Dakota are unhappy with the state of America’s democracy. The data comes from a new poll sponsored by South Dakota News Watch and the Chiesman Center for Democracy. It surveyed 500 registered voters across party affiliations and found 32 percent of respondents said they were very unsatisfied and 22 percent said they were somewhat unsatisfied the current state of democracy. Most South Dakotans believe, however, that their elected officials are being held accountable. Researchers say the accountability findings are a positive sign for the health of democracy in the country.
