(Washington, DC) — Politicians in Washington are trying to figure out ways to lower fertilizer prices. Sen. John Hoeven and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins outlined a series of steps to make costs easier for farmers nationwide. Hoeven touted programs in North Dakota that help farmers long and short term but mentioned he also wants to see fertilizer production increase in the states. “Farming and ranching needs to be more profitable,” he told reporters. Meanwhile, the USDA predicts spring wheat acreage in the U.S. to hit a record low this year, in part because of high fertilizer prices.
