Minot HS Graduation Tradition Comes To An End

(Minot, ND) — A long-standing graduation tradition is coming to an end at Minot High School. The “sitting in numbers” tradition required graduates to wear one of the two school colors, maroon or gold, during commencement based on their seating arrangement, so from an aerial view the colors created the graduation year. School administrators say the addition of another high school in Minot is forcing them to stop the tradition. Principal David McQueen says they would need to use about half of the 300 expected graduates to make it work this year, and it would be even harder next year when the graduation class is expected to be only 200.
